Join the mercenary Ryudo and his companions in an epic quest across a fantasy world. Grandia II itself is not a new game by any means, but the unique turn-based JRPG was remastered for the PC on August 24th in celebration of its 15th anniversary. With improved graphics, a new difficulty setting, and other PC additions, Grandia II Anniversary Edition is a great way to experience a classic RPG and provides hope that more old games will be re-released.

Return to the planet Sera and protect humanity from the Locust Horde. For Xbox 360 owners, Gears of War was one of the biggest third-person shooter franchises of the last generation. As of August 25th, the first game has been remastered for the Xbox One as Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, with a PC version to follow. It also includes new modes, levels previously exclusive to the PC version, and access to the upcoming Gears of War 4 beta.

Until Dawn (PS4)

Originally announced as a PlayStation 3 title inspired by teen slasher movies, Until Dawn vanished from sight until it re-emerged for the PS4. With game-play reminiscent of Heavy Rain, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, and Telltale’s adventure games, it presents players with choices that truly matter and determine who lives and dies. Although jump scares and horror cliches fill Until Dawn, it them to its advantage and became a surprise hit after its August 25th release.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

Amid the controversy surrounding Konami and Hideo Kojima’s messy departure from the company, fans of the long-running stealth series Metal Gear Solid still eagerly await Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The series’ deep storytelling and non-linear game-play enters an open-world setting for the first time, as you uncover a dark plot in Afghanistan. The Phantom Pain will become available on September 1st.

Super Mario Maker (Wii U)

Rather than a new Mario platformer, Super Mario Maker is a game creator where players can design their own. While this Wii U game won’t be out until September 11th, some levels have already been created and showcased. The variety of tools available means fans can follow a wide variety of styles to produce retro stages, modern designs, and more. User-made levels can be shared through a variety of ways, so both players and designers can enjoy it.
