GameSpot Editor, Jason Ocampo, leaves?
Posted by miuki as Industry
Here’s something to feast your eyes upon.
Apparently the latest to leave GameSpot is Jason Ocampo?
Who is he you ask?
Well, according to the source, he was the PC Editor at GameSpot and before that worked at CNET Game Center.
“I do want to say it was not something I was thinking about or planning,”
explained Ocampo during the HotSpot.
“Three weeks ago, I had no idea I would be leaving and… (I had an opportunity and) it was time to move on. It was the hardest decision I think I’ve ever made in my life.”
Ocampo made the announcement during GameSpot’s podcast, HotSpot.

The Philippines ‘Gaming’ Industry
Posted by miuki as Industry
A friend of mine introduced me to IP e-Games Philippines, out of the blue. And like I always say…
Curiosity is a sin, but one that I often commit.
Yes, as expected, I didn’t some look up on it in the internet (Google that is) I found out that,
IP e-Games Philippines is one of the leading online game publishers in the Philippines.
According to some god forsaken statistics (facts or fiction I can’t be sure), IP e-Games Philippines has more than 4 million registered users, with 950,000 active users per month!
On average, IP e-Games Philippines hosts 40,000 concurrent users for its games, including RAN Online, O2Jam, Dreamville and Battle Position whatever that is.
(By any chance does IP e-Games Philippines have any relations to e-Games? Just a thought.)
They have a wide selection of games that caters to casual gamers to core enthusiasts. Its flagship game, RAN Online, a campus-based Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG), and rhythm game O2 Jam. In addition, they also have Battle Position, a platform-based real-time shooter, and Dreamville, the first Social Network Service (SNS) in the Philippines.
During the last quarter of the previous last year, IP e-Games Philippines launched two additional games: [ Click here to read more ]

Bruckheimer to Develop Video Games in MTV Deal
Posted by miuki as Industry
The New York Times reports that blockbuster Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer is going to try his hand at developing video games.
The Times says Bruckheimer’s company is going to announce a deal with MTV next Wednesday.
On Wednesday Mr. Bruckheimer’s company will announce a deal with MTV to develop actual video games, which would probably start appearing on store shelves in 2009. The new games will be based on fresh concepts rather than on current MTV shows or on Mr. Bruckheimer’s vast library of past projects, which includes the “C.S.I.” television franchise and movies like “Beverly Hills Cop” and “Pirates of the Caribbean”.
As its audience has grown more interested in video games, MTV, a division of Viacom, is trying to follow them.
In August, MTV announced that it would invest more than $500 million in its interactive entertainment business over the next two years. Several weeks ago, it released Rock Band, a well-reviewed game in which players operate instrument-shaped controllers in time to pop songs. [ Click here to read more ]
