2D Platformers have become the poster child for “classic” video games. They have been charming and amazing us ever since the birth of Super Mario Bros. or Sonic, and some modern titles like Shantae show that there is still more to come from this genre.

From smaller indie game developing companies to the big ones, 2D Platformer has always been a genre to take in consideration when trying to transform a game concept into a game itself.

Developed by Super God, Riptale is a roguelike action 2D Platformer filled with menacing enemies, gory visuals and a fast paced combat system that will surely keep you on the edge of your seat at all times.

You take the role of a very agile swordsman with the ability to harness the power of astral gems to tear through anything that moves! There are many gems (and with them, upgrades) to choose from, and each allows you to customise your attacks to better suit your play style!

You can use your arrow keys/stick to direct your dash attack. This means that you can get creative and find ways to attack in certain directions to avoid damage or make a strategic move towards an enemy or a boss.

Along the game, you will find enemies with different patterns, so being careful and changing your gem collection to better suit the enemies you’re fighting is vital. You will be able to purchase astral gems from a shop placed in a random place within every level in exchange for coins, which you’ll find as you slice down some enemies or props.

While remaining simple, every level brings you a different and new experience from the last one; forcing you into complicated situations that require you to think fast and act accurately or you risk being punished with a pit of monsters or deadly spikes. As you advance, you’ll find some rooms filled with pieces of information to help you figure out the story of the game.

You have hearts (you can stock up on) representing your health, and every enemy is going to try it’s best to take at least one from you. You can replenish your hearts by finding them inside boxes or other enemies.

So if you’re running low on health and feel like avoiding fights enemies until you are in better shape, you’ll need to put your skills to the max by flying through the screen slashing until an enemy drops a heart. And if they don’t, at least you still look cool doing it.

Additionally, the soundtrack used in the game does a excellent job at setting up an ambience, keeping you interested and in expectation of what’ll come next.

Riptale brings you intense moments in which fast reaction times and planning are essential to your survival. If you think you’ve got what it takes, you can purchase it now at the Steam Store for 5.99 USD and, if you get it before May the 4th, you’ll get a 10% discount! So what are you waiting for? Grab your sword and slice ahead!
