Is she really “not that into you”?

6 March 2010 2,523 views One Comment

When I read the title “She’s Just Not That Into You” I kinda thought that it had some relation to the movie so I read it. In a way it does, then again, that would also mean everything else in the world is related in one way or another.

I couldn’t help but drool over the charm bracelet, even though it’s kinda branded Nintendo. I’m very much into my DS Lite and somewhat hands on with my XBox. But what’s ruling me these days has gotta be my iPhone.

Anyway, you have gotta read this article (and the comments) at Girls & Gaming. It’s a little old, but… I donno. It caught my attention. If you actually do read it, do come back and tell me what your thoughts are?

Personally, I really don’t see what so-called disconnection between girls and gaming. Then again, that could also be because my best friend and I got to know each other because of gaming. So who am I to judge the rest of the female population eh? Wait, judge is the wrong word, “speak for” seems more appropriate in this situation.

But I have to admit, the reasons “Don’t have time” and “Aren’t familiar with gaming systems/games” are pretty valid reasons. But I can’t agree with “Don’t think it’s fun”. You might not find every game fun but to you can’t really say they’re all not fun, right?

“Don’t have time”

Growing up, I find myself less drawn to complex games like the World of Warcraft, Lineage, etc. It does take up a little too much time. Time that I don’t have on hand right now. Juggling work and school at my age is tedious, really tedious. The brain just doesn’t start up as fast as it use to.

“Aren’t familiar with gaming systems/games”

I admit, really, if you ask me to pick up PlayStation right now, I’d be a little hesitant about it. I’m familiar with my PC, my DS and maybe, just maybe my XBox (referring more to the Rock Band, still suck in playing Halo on the XBox though), but seriously, for a PC gamer like myself to switch to console… it’s just difficult. Not impossible, just difficult. Have to get used to the controls. Maybe I’ll try the Wii.

“Don’t think it’s fun”

Well, I don’t think Football Manager is fun but I do think StarCraft: Brood War is. This is a totally bad reason. It’s like judging a book by it’s cover.

Fyi, I know the question about missing something out isn’t targeted to me, but I just had to give my take.
