Sony talks about new Firmware for PlayStation 3

The Playstation 3 is getting a Firmware update, which is no doubt a good thing, I think.

The update is slated for next week, and SCEA has some details of what the firmware entails.

For all you audiophiles out there, you are going to love this. DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio are being added to the Playstation 3. In other words, this will allow you to have the full high definition Blu-Ray experience.

If you have 7.1 surround sound system you are going to absolutely love this “patch” (so to speak).

DTS-HD Master Audio offers 7.1 audio channels at 96k sampling frequency / 24bit depths.

And what does all that mean? In short, it is going to deliver you premium audio at faster speeds.

The format is also equal of better than Dolby TrueHD.

You’ll still hear a difference if you have 5 speakers or less. It just won’t be as surround as the 7.1 experience.

In a way or another, this update will somewhat bring the Playstation 3 to a new level in being a major entertainment center not just for games, but for movies too. (Then again, most updates have it’s purpose to be better and not worst.)
