Susan Arendt “reports”:

EA’s Travis Boatman certainly caught our attention this morning when he gave a brief demo of an apparently complete version of Spore running on an iPhone.

FYI: It’s Spore not S’pore.

According to Susan, since I wasn’t there personally, Boatman’s show and tell took place during Apple’s presentation about the iPhone’s SDK (Software Development Kit). Boatman said it took EA two days to get CocoaTouch running, after which they could “import the whole game“.

He (as in Boatman and not Susan, since Susan is a she to begin with) then ran through a brief demonstration of Spore on the iPhone, including touchscreen editing.

Apparently, the iPhone (which I still can’t use to make calls) can run the entire game, cut-scenes and all.

Boatman also revealed that EA has other games in development for the iPhone. In other words, I would have more things to do with my iPhone apart from surfing the net using Wireless@SG?

However, Boatman didn’t specifically announce when Spore was coming to the iPhone, but “we” (Susan and team) figure the official word can’t be far behind. They have contacted EA for confirmation,

EA hasn’t finalized the release date for Spore on the iPhone (iSpore?), but “we hope to launch an iPhone OS version of Spore this Sept in conjunction with the launch of SPORE for the MAC, PC, DS and other mobile devices.”

Based on the last updates written.
