The Philippines ‘Gaming’ Industry

A friend of mine introduced me to IP e-Games Philippines, out of the blue. And like I always say…

Curiosity is a sin, but one that I often commit.

Yes, as expected, I didn’t some look up on it in the internet (Google that is) I found out that,

IP e-Games Philippines is one of the leading online game publishers in the Philippines.

According to some god forsaken statistics (facts or fiction I can’t be sure), IP e-Games Philippines has more than 4 million registered users, with 950,000 active users per month!

On average, IP e-Games Philippines hosts 40,000 concurrent users for its games, including RAN Online, O2Jam, Dreamville and Battle Position whatever that is.

(By any chance does IP e-Games Philippines have any relations to e-Games? Just a thought.)

They have a wide selection of games that caters to casual gamers to core enthusiasts. Its flagship game, RAN Online, a campus-based Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG), and rhythm game O2 Jam. In addition, they also have Battle Position, a platform-based real-time shooter, and Dreamville, the first Social Network Service (SNS) in the Philippines.

During the last quarter of the previous last year, IP e-Games Philippines launched two additional games:

Supreme Destiny – A classical fantasy MMORPG for those in the want for sword and sorcery.
Audition: Online Dance Battle – Gives music lovers the chance to see their characters rule the online dance floor.

Here’s the interesting part…

IP e-Games Philippines together with IAH Singapore, launched Granado Espada, a 3D MMORPG created by Hakkyu Kim, creator of Ragnarok Online!

Company names are really hard to remember.

Anyway.

GMA New Media, Inc. (GMA-NMI), a 100% subsidiary of GMA Network, Inc. entered into a Shareholders’ Agreement with IP E-Game Ventures, Inc. (IPE), a subsidiary of IPVG Corp. for the purpose of creating and operating a joint venture company to be incorporated under the name “I-Play, Inc.” which will engage in the business of designing, operating, and maintaining casual online gaming and casual online gaming-related portals.

I-Play, Inc. shall have an authorized capital stock of 8 Hundred Million Pesos (PHP 800,000,000), with an initial paid-in capitalization of 2 Hundred Million Pesos (PHP 200,000,000). It will be equally owned by GMA-NMI and IPE, with each party having a 50% stake in the company.

(I wonder how much SGD is PHP 800,000,000? Oh well.)
