Counter-Strike vs. Paintball

Posted by miuki as Personal, Perspectives

If you were to select Counter-Strike (the PC game) or Paintball, which would you pick?

For me, I pick Counter-Strike of course. I never really liked “real life” violence. Virtual reality kind is “okay”, I guess. I mean, you can’t actually get injured playing a PC game, can you?

Anyway…

I’ve been hearing a couple of comments about the somewhat link between Counter-Strike and Paintball. And to be frank, I find it ridiculous.

Counter-Strike is Counter-Strike.
Paintball is Paintball.

The significant difference between them is that one is virtual the other is reality. Enough said?

For god sake, Counter-Strike is a damn PC game, it’s virtual! Where as, Paintball is somewhat like a physical sport, it’s very real!

The requirements for Counter-Strike and Paintball is completely different. To play Counter-Strike you just need a PC, a keyboard, a mouse, and of course the game installed. But for Paintball, you actually require stamina and speed to be able to excel (and not to forget you need to be able to bear with PAIN as well).

I started playing Counter-Strike since Beta 6.5 until Version 1.6 (I think). After that I kinda stopped, so I never really tried Source before (not really the point though). The point is, after playing Counter-Strike for so very long, I’ve never actually suffered any physical injuries before. (A good thing of course.)

Where as for Paintball on the other hand, I’m quite sure it’s otherwise. And to prove it…

Though I refused to play the game (even though I was standing right outside the “arena”), I am sooo not blind.

As far as I’m concerned, looking at the injuries of “the rest“, I doubt there will be any chance of me taking part in this activity for at least this lifetime.

So yes, in other words, Paintball can cause physical injuries to individuals. And pain is definitely not my cup of tea.

I would say that aside from the obvious differences (reality vs PC game), the two have many things in common such as team-oriented arena fighting with projectile-firing weapons. I imagine that the psychological aspects are very similar.

Miuki says:

True. There are similarities no doubt. However, an individual would still require the physical ability to be able to even think about the similarities in psychological aspects.

You can virtual ride a bike with ease. In fact, can even take part in virtual bike racing tournaments. But if you can’t ride a bike in reality, you just can’t.
