Few weeks after the release of the new 40GB PlayStation 3 model for Europe, Japan and Australia was announced, Sony finally made the announcement to release it in North America as well.

The new PlayStation 3 will be launched on November 02, 2007 and is priced at $399. Differ from the 60GB and 80GB models, the new 40GB PlayStation 3 will not have any memory card readers instead there will only be 2 USB ports instead 4. Also, as announced previously, the 40GB PlayStation 3 won’t feature backward PlayStation 2 compatibility, but it will have built-in IEEE 802.11 b/g wireless networking capability.

In a way you can consider it more advance. Yet on the other hand, with the reduction of USB ports and space itself, it has it’s flaws.

In additional, Sony Computer Entertainment America has also announced that there is going to be a $100 price cut for the 80GB PlayStation 3, pricing it at $499 current.

Although it (as in PlayStation 3) still remains as the most expensive “next generation” console within the market. The PlayStation 3 may appeal to movie enthusiasts because it’s the only gaming system that can play HD-DVD’s without requiring a HD player (like the Xbox 360).

Oh yes, and let’s not forget that the PlayStation 3 is also the cheapest Blu-ray player in the market, considering that the cheapest standalone Blu-ray player reaches roughly $400.

In a way PlayStation 3 does have it’s twist. On the other hand, it’s price remains somewhat steep. I guess it’s only fair since after all PlayStation 3 is kinda one of the more advanced consoles in the market.

P/s: You can get the specifications of the 40GB PlayStation 3 at Gameater.
